The Ultimate Guide to Day Trips from Regina

Hikes, picnics, beaches or exploring quaint prairie towns: Day trips from Regina have it all. As the capital of Saskatchewan, Regina is a culture-rich city, containing parks, galleries and many city events. But if you’re wanting to take a day trip out of the city, we have you covered.

Starting from Regina’s Sherwood Co-op, you can gas up on premium TOP TIERTM fuel, check your fluid levels, grab snacks and be on your way as soon as possible!

1. Town of Lumsden

A trip to the town of Lumsden will take you just over 40 kilometres. The quick drive means you can make this journey in a casual afternoon, but best to plan on spending a few hours exploring. The charming town boasts old homes, nature and antique stores. You can book a tour at Last Mountain Distillery and discover how things like dill pickle infused vodka (caesars, anyone?) or Apple Pie Moonshine are made. Make sure you have a designated driver if you plan to sample the product!

After you’ve explored Lumsden, you can continue your trip to Last Mountain Regional Park.

2. Last Mountain Regional Park

Last Mountain Regional Park has something for the entire family. You’ll find the park on the north end of Last Mountain Lake, inside the oldest bird sanctuary in North America. Visitors can expect an outdoor swimming pool, a playground, a beach volleyball court, a nine-hole golf course and camping facilities. The lake itself is used for fishing and boating.

3. Moose Jaw

Moose Jaw may be a smaller city but it has a lot to offer. While only an hour away from Regina, you’ll want to plan for an entire day (or more) here. To start, take a guided tour on the Moose Jaw Trolley. A guide will show you the best parts of the community and on this tour, you can map out the rest of your day.

Insider tip: There are three Co-op Gas Bars in Moose Jaw to top up your fuel.

Since the trolley tour takes place above-ground, your next destination could be a tour through the Tunnels of Moose Jaw. You’ll discover Al Capone’s bootlegging route and come to understand the hardships of early Chinese immigrants in Saskatchewan.

Other must-see spots include the many art galleries, public murals, parks and, of course, Mac the Moose.

Fun fact: Residents of Moose Jaw are known as Moose Javians.

4. Kenosee Lake

Although Kenosee Lake only boasts a population of just over 230 people, thousands flock to the Kenosee Superslides every summer. On a hot day, the slides are good for the whole family with slides for all age levels. Besides the waterpark, you can also check out Moose Mountain Provincial Park and Bear Claw Casino.

5. Fort Qu’Appelle

Echo Lake near Fort Qu'Appelle

Fort Qu’Appelle is a quaint town surrounded by lakes. Established as one of the Hudson Bay Company’s first trading posts in 1852, the town is rich in Canadian history. After touring the town’s museum, head out to the nearby lakes for an afternoon at the beach; Katepwa Lake is one of the best.
