Don’t miss a beat

Monitoring heart health has come a long way in recent years. At Battlefords Union Hospital in North Battleford, Sask., patients can leave their room thanks to a device that monitors cardiac or respiratory abnormalities and transmits data through a wireless network.

Discovery Co-op donated six cents per litre, for a total of $6,300, to the hospital foundation’s We Don’t Want to Miss a Beat campaign for Fuel Good Day in 2017. The campaign is raising money to upgrade the monitoring system.

“The foundation has a significant impact on lives of our members and customers in the communities we serve,” said Discovery Co-op General Manager Mike Nord. “The day did not disappoint as first thing in the morning fleets of vehicles lined up to fuel their vehicles. Foundation volunteers attended the event and personally thanked people for their contributions.”

At present, the monitoring system has become outdated and experiences increasing service outages. The foundation also hopes to increase the number of monitoring devices from eight to 12 to meet growing demand.
