Above and beyond full service

Full service at Co-op means extra service at no extra cost. We love helping out our neighbours — and for us, full-service gas stations are one way we can do that. Whether it’s the dead of winter or the height of summer, at our full serve stations, you can sit back, stay comfortable and let us pump your gas!

We asked our Facebook community to tell us what they appreciate about full service. We were overwhelmed with positive stories ranging from people just happy to not have to pump their own gas in freezing temperatures to stories about how CO-OP® Gas Bar employees have gone an extra kilometre (or four) to make a customer’s day better.

We love hearing about happy customers and helpful employees across Western Canada. We pride ourselves on our customer service, but the comments on that Facebook post revealed stories about special relationships between gas bar employees, their communities and the travellers that pass through their towns.

We wanted to share some of these stories. Here are a handful of our favourite comments:

Thor told us about the time an employee went above and beyond for him.

“We had a Co-op employee willing to drive four kilometres out of town to get us if we ran out of fuel. Luckily, we just made it to the station. Plus, always fast and friendly service when I fill up there. You guys are top notch.” - Thor K.

Scott said the employees at his local Co-op Gas Bar have taken note of his morning routine.

“The Co-op down in the flats knows me very well. There have been times when I would show up in the morning and the things I normally grab would already be out and ready to be scanned. And if I pull up to full service pumps — same thing. Amazing employees and amazing people just in general. Couldn’t ask for better customer service!” - Scott L.

Some customers were even inspired to apply for a job at their local gas bar after receiving top-notch service — it’s something they value in an employer.

“I am now a Co-op employee because of this. My truck wouldn’t start. Battery died, and I couldn’t get into the truck. Dylan, an employee, drove me to my house to get my spare set of keys, then drove me back to the Co-op. He helped me boost the truck to get me on my way. Never have I been so impressed with ANY kind of service before or since.” - Kristine O.

Again, what one Co-op employee did for Kristine when she was out of luck goes far beyond the scope of normal.

Julia Herperger trusts her local Co-op Gas Bar with helping out her mother.

“They’ve really helped my Mum out. She’s a senior citizen and still drives. Having a car gives her a lot of independence, and that means a lot to her. The full-service bars help her with this a lot, especially in winter. She’s amazing for her age, but doing things like standing out there when it’s -40 degrees and pumping gas is just too much for her, understandably. This way, she doesn’t have to. It helps her, and it helps me, too, because of course I worry about her.” - Julia H.

And, sometimes, it’s the small moments of human kindness that can really make your day.

“I was having a bad morning — slept in, kids were grumpy and we had places to be. The kids and I had to stop and get fuel, just to make it feel more rushed. When I pulled up and got out, the pump attendant was very friendly and said “Good morning” to the kids and me. When we were leaving, my daughter had her hands full. The pump attendant saw this and opened the truck door for her! Just a simple courtesy that went a long way. She still talks highly of that moment!” -Kristal L.

We’re proud of Co-op employees, their commitment to great customer service and the relationships they’ve developed with our customers. Full service means more than just pumping gas — it’s a Co-op thing.
