The new Gear Oil and MTF (Manual Transmission Fluid) product brands have replaced the current legacy Sonic MP Gear Oil brand and now align within the Co-op Premium Lubricants portfolio. The Gear and MTF products were modernized and expanded to suit varying equipment requirements and are now available at Co-op Home Centres, Agro Centres and select Gas Bars across Western Canada, where Co-op Premium Lubricants are available.
Gear oil
Gear Synthetic 75W-90 is designed for off-warranty equipment and is suitable for applications that do not require a fully registered and approved Eaton Road Ranger Support oil. The new Synthetic 75W-90 is designed to provide excellent protection to equipment components in various light and heavy-duty scenarios and, like all other products in the Co-op Premium Lubricants lineup, is backed by the Co-op Oil Guarantee.
The Co-op Oil Guarantee warrants that Co-op Premium Lubricants will meet or exceed original equipment manufacturers’ standards, be free from defects and protect your equipment from oil-related failure when used according to our instructions, recommendations and original equipment manufacturers’ requirements.
Gear Synthetic Oil multi-grade formulation meets the performance requirements for drive axles, limited slip differentials, wheel hubs, transfer cases and gearboxes. It offers various advantages, including prolonged drain intervals, exceptional year-round performance and effective corrosion protection.
Another product added to the Gear Oil lineup is designed for those applications that require a fully registered and approved Eaton Road Ranger Support. The new Gear FE (Fuel Efficient) Synthetic 75W-90 replaces the existing Sonic MP Gear Oil SL 75W-90. The product’s features and benefits include all-season use, reduced maintenance and superior protection of gears and bearings.
MTF
The new MTF (Manual Transmission Fluid) EA Synthetic SAE 40 product complies with the Eaton PS-386 Performance Specification. It is designed to cater to Co-op commercial customers with newer on-highway transmissions that demand a fully approved product. The benefits include a 1.5% improvement in fuel economy and superior performance in both high- and low-temperature conditions.
For off warranty transmissions that do not require the Eaton PS-386 Performance Specification, the current Sonic MP Gear Oil SL 50 has been rebranded as the MTF SYNTHETIC SAE 50 and is suitable for use to service these types of customer requirements.

Gear FE Synthetic 75W-90 and MTF EA Synthetic SAE 40 products have been Eaton-approved, making them warranty-certified with the original equipment manufacturer.
